Knockaunglas is home to a nature preserve and community garden allotments. In 2025, Athenry Community Council transformed the land into a meadow park with the help of Trees on the Land. Now 1,000 trees are planted at the site and while today it’s a wild meadow, it will become a biodiversity hotspot, creating a home for native wildlife as it continues to grow and transform.
The Meadow is a short walk from the town centre, next to Athenry Primary School (Campus B). Parking is available along the road.
The Meadow at Knockaunglas is open to visitors via pedestrian gate entrance. Please stay on the path, respect the community garden allotments, mind your pets, and take any rubbish or pet waste home with you.
Take your smallies on a Knockaunglas Nature Hunt! Use the form below and see how many things you can find on your walk through the meadow!
Community Garden Allotments
Garden allotments are available to lease annually for a small fee. In partnership with Athenry Tidy Towns, allotment owners have access to garden compost, a shed, and glass house.
